Traditional retractable leashes use a thin round cord that kinks, crosses, and wraps around legs easily. This model uses a flat nylon strap, which lies flat rather than looping into a coil. Flat straps are significantly less prone to tangling around your legs or the dog's legs during back-and-forth movement, making them safer than cord-style retractables.

The brake button is momentary — hold it down and the strap stops extending. Release it and the strap moves freely again. The locking function holds the strap at a fixed length permanently until you release the lock. Use the brake for brief pauses (waiting at a crossing), and the lock when you want a consistently shortened length for a full block or a vet visit.

High-quality nylon is rated for sustained tension and does not fray from normal pulling. The risk to the strap is more from abrasion against rough surfaces (concrete edges, fence posts) than from pulling force. Inspect the strap periodically near the hook end where friction is highest, and retire the leash if fraying is visible in that area.
