The listing states up to 90% shedding reduction on regularly groomed dogs. That figure applies when the tool is used consistently as part of a grooming routine, not as a one-time fix. Dogs that are groomed irregularly will see lower reduction because the undercoat accumulates between sessions.
The deshedding edge is specifically designed for coats longer than 2 inches. It is a 4-inch wide stainless steel edge that reaches through the long topcoat to access the dense undercoat underneath. Dogs with very short coats under 2 inches may not benefit from this tool as effectively.
After each grooming pass, loose hair accumulates on the stainless steel deshedding edge. Pressing the ejector button releases that collected hair from the blade in one motion, clearing it for the next stroke without having to pick hair off manually between every pass.
The tool is designed to pass through the long topcoat and collect undercoat without cutting or thinning the outer guard hairs. The stainless steel teeth are spaced and angled to slide past topcoat strands and grab the looser, finer undercoat fibers that are already detached from the follicle.
