Measure the width of your backseat opening and the height from the seat base to the headliner before purchasing. SUVs and hatchbacks with taller cargo areas may need the full height extension.
The tension system uses compression between two opposing surfaces — typically the floor and headliner or two side pillars — with rubberized caps that grip the contact points. Under normal driving, including braking and cornering, a correctly tensioned barrier holds firmly. For very sudden or high-force impacts, no tension-mount barrier is a substitute for a dog crate or crash-tested restraint.
The tubular steel construction creates a grid of open spaces rather than a solid panel, so the dog has visual access to the front of the vehicle and you have an unobstructed rearview mirror sightline into the back. In a three-row vehicle, measure the width and height at your intended installation point — the span between door pillars varies between rows. The tension-mount design does not rely on permanently installed hardware, so you can reposition it between rows as needed.
